Thinking of opening or refurbishing your Butcher Shop or Delicatessen? Catering Equipment Direct has your needs covered and offers a Price Match Guarantee to ensure you are getting the best product at the best price.
For butchers and delicatessens we have off-the-shelf solutions in the European designed Eurocryer range - Spring, or Criocabin Enixe and Ergo self-contained or remote refrigerated display cabinets. All come in a range of sizes and corner units to suit your shop layout. Most cabinets feature refrigerated under storage but the Enixe M1 has been designed with a larger evaporator to run at colder temperatures in which case, the under storage is lost. In general these cabinets should be in air conditioned locations to ensure optimal performance.
Don’t like the blown air display refrigeration? Have a look at the new Explorer with a top fin coil and cold plate. This cabinet overcomes the suggestion that blown air cabinets dry product and is a great solution for those retailers favouring this style of cabinet. It is more economic to buy per lineal metre than locally made cabinets, which may or may not work satisfactorily. The choice of finish and colour will enhance any chosen décor. You should, however, allow 12 weeks for delivery so be sure to plan and order early.
We have the ideal solution for open face multi-deck refrigerated display cabinets. For meat product we recommend the Onwave Eco fitted with sliding pespex doors designed to run at 0°C to 2°C. Because of the unobtrusive doors they are not as susceptible to drafts and will meet your every need. Again, placement in air conditioned premises only is recommended.
Catering Equipment Direct can also provide you with Brice meat slicers, band saws, mixer/mincers & sausage fillers, Wedderburn label printing scales & cash registers all at very competitive prices. And if you want a cool room or freezer room, we can help you with that too.
Refrigerated Display Cabinets for retail applications such as butchers, delicatessens, hotels, sandwich shops & coffee shops are available in a huge number of brands, and an equally big variation in quality and performance. Generally to function at the temperatures required by Safe Foods (5°C or under), the ambient temperature in the premises should not exceed 25°C and the relative humidity 65%. Many claim to operate in higher temperatures and humidity but caution should be taken.
Australian conditions almost invariably require air conditioning otherwise the cabinets will not consistently maintain the temperature required, exposing retailers to sanctions by Safe Food, or worse, affecting the health of customers.
Catering Equipment Direct will never recommend a refrigerated display cabinet to a retailer without first discussing the environment in which it is to be located. A short period of time, say 3 to 4 hours per day can be tolerated by a quality display cabinet such as the Eurocryer Spring, Criocabin Ergo, Enixe and Explorer. The temperature at which they are set to operate will also affect this period of time. Butchers Display cabinets are usually required to maintain 0°C to 2°C. Accordingly, in marginal environments we suggest the Enixe M1, a superior performance Refrigerated Display case, or the Explorer featuring cold plate and top fin coil. The Explorer is a recent addition to our range, introduced at the request of butchers over a number of years.
In properly air conditioned shops the Spring, Ergo and Enixe refrigerated display cabinets are perfect for butchers and delicatessens and offer the added advantage of refrigerated storage under the refrigerated display cabinet. The Enixe features square lift up front glass and the Spring and Ergo curved lift up front glass.
For sandwich and coffee shops where ambient temperatures may be a little higher than 25°C for some of the day, but the operating temperature is not as critical, The Enixe, Ergo or Spring Display Cabinets will normally be adequate.

Wandering around a shopping strip or food court have you ever wondered about the quality and safety of the enormous range of food on offer? In NSW the responsibility for enforcing food safety rests with the Safe Food Authority and a quick look at their web site will cause you to think again. Perishable food must be displayed for sale at temperatures inhibiting the growth of harmful bacteria. Have you been served lukewarm food or a sandwich that is not cold? Imagine the danger or at the least, a painful stomach bug.
Catering Equipment Direct Pty Ltd have the experience and knowledge to assist retailers select the refrigerated display equipment or heated displays that will maintain the safety of their food and enhance the merchandising and therefore, volume sales and profit. Equally, food must be stored correctly which is where Catering Equipment Direct can supply and service storage refrigeration, including large energy efficient stainless steel refrigerated cabinets or cool rooms - either custom built or prefabricated.
That experience and knowledge has come from 15 years of owning and operating independent supermarkets which included butchers shops, delicatessens, bakeries, fresh fruit & vegetables and liquor shops. We have also been involved in restaurants, function and wedding venues for over 5 years. In addition we have owned Catering Equipment Direct Pty Ltd or similar businesses selling and servicing commercial refrigeration and catering equipment for 14 years.
For refrigerated perishable food the temperature must be less than 5°C at all times. For hot food the requirement is greater than 65°C. Meat and delicatessen products present special risks requiring strict compliance with temperature. Catering Equipment Direct supply the best refrigerated display cabinets available and as value for money, recommend the Eurocyer Spring Refrigerated Display Cabinets. The Spring is a modern curved glass easy to clean display that will maintain meat and delicatessen products below 5°C and are usually set to run at 1°C to 3°C.
Eurocryer heated displays matching the refrigerated displays will keep food at 65°C, adding real class and profit to the butcher, delicatessen, sandwich shop or cafe. We recently supplied and installed a line up of Spring Refrigerated Display Cabinets including a 90° corner unit for Michele’s Delicatessen at Miller in Western Sydney. The Owner, Michele, is delighted with the refrigerated displays, which she feels will give her a competitive advantage. The installation also included a refrigerated sandwich bar which displays and functions exceptionally and has produced a great profit result.
Catering Equipment Direct also provide heated and cold displays for bakeries, cake shops and coffee shops. Brands include Milan, Tecfrigo, Criocabin, and Vienna. Of course, all these will maintain the required temperatures, providing they are installed in the right environment.
Catering Equipment Direct is happy to visit your site and recommend the most suitable refrigerated or heated display to suit your business need, budget and environment. Do not risk making your customers sick and harming your business profit because your refrigerated or heated display is not meeting safe food guidelines.

Price is often said not to be the most important consideration in the purchase of equipment. Many will suggest that service, trust, choice and quality are the main factors. In today's market I have a different opinion. Price in my view is the number one factor. Certainly service, trust & choice follow closely but always the first question is ‘how much?'
Decisions made on price alone are fraught with danger. I very recently had an enquiry from a childcare centre that had purchased a cheap single glass door refrigerator from a big catering equipment supplier. The refrigerator leaked & would not maintain temperature. Technicians were unable to fix it as it was completely substandard. The centre purchased another from my company. How cheap was their cheap refrigerator? The real cost however could have been huge. Failure of the refrigeration to maintain correct temperature could have brought about more serious issues with contaminated food & associated food poising. What then would have then been the real cost?
Translate this simple example to the hospitality industry in general. What is the true cost of equipment failure? The cost can be greater than the purchase price of the original equipment. Take into account the cost of repair/replacement, loss of stock, loss of business, loss of customers, possible food contamination & certainly loss of profit.
Our product range has been selected to satisfy all types of customers and budget ranges. We have a vast range of brands such as Koxka, Semak, Electrolux, Grange, Birko, Criocabin, Luus, Eurocryor, Unox, Enixe, Lassele, Williams, Koldtech, Inoxtrend, Boema, Ergo, Explorer, Iarp, Manitowoc, Tecfrigo & Lamber.
We take pride in offering honest advice based on many years of experience, taking into account our customers real needs & budget. This will sometimes cost a sale but more often than not create a loyal customer. For further information please contact us on 0421 832 155.
